Since the fall of the Roman Empire, the inhabitants in Worms experience a changing world. After the Burgundians and the Alamanni, the Franks gain control of the city and its region from c.500 CE. The royal dynasty, the Merovingians, are now in control and Worms becomes one of the important cities of this kingdom, together with cities, like Metz and Reims. The Merovingians are also responsible for the construction of the new cathedral in Worms around AD 600. The countless finds from this period, including some very precious artefacts, predominantly come from a funerary context.
